Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Frederick Acheampong, has cautioned that Nsoatreman FC will face consequences if they go ahead with their decision to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League.

The Nsoatre-based club has been at the center of controversy following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, during their Matchday 19 fixture in the ongoing 2024/25 season.

In response to the violence surrounding the incident, the GFA suspended Matchday 20 games to reinforce safety measures and ensure discipline at match venues.

Amid the fallout, Nsoatreman FC announced their withdrawal from the league. However, Acheampong stressed that such a decision would come with repercussions.

“The regulations are there, if it happens that way, we will consult the regulations. If someone enters into a competition and midway through the competition withdraws, there are consequences," he said.

“They-Nsoatreman-showed commitment (that) they were going to play the league till the end so there are consequences and that will be dealt with by the Premier League regulations," he added.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested six individuals in connection with Nana Pooley’s death, including Nsoatreman FC owner Ignatius Baffour Awuah.
