Scottish champions, Celtic, have expressed interest in recruiting Ghanaian midfield international Stephen Appiah from Fenerbahce.

Celtic, however, face competition from a number of other clubs for the 26-year-old Ghana captain's signature.

Schalke, who finished runners-up in Germany's Bundesliga, have been linked with Appiah, who led his country to their debut World Cup appearance last year. He is likely to be just one of a number of players on Celtic manager Gordon Strachan's list of possible summer signings.

Earlier last season, a number of clubs made attempts at signing the dynamic midfielder on, but Fernabahce were relunctant to release him and it is not clear if they would let him go after helping them to win the league title.

• MTN CAF Champions League holders, Al Ahly of Egypt, have insisted they will not let go their Angolan striker Flavio.

Al Ahly received an official offer for their marksman from German side Alemania Aachen but the Egyptians are not planning to sell their player.

“Our target is to defend our MTN CAF Champions League title and to do that we will not let go any of our players,” Al Ahly manager Hossam El Badry said.

Flavio, who helped Al Ahly to win the domestic league this season, was the top scorer of the competition with 17 goals.
