Kofi Adams, the nominee for Minister of Sports and Recreation, has outlined plans to revitalize the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking before the Vetting Committee on Thursday, Adams, who represents the Buem constituency, emphasized the importance of technical development and player retention as key elements in strengthening Ghana’s domestic football.
He highlighted a key initiative: modernizing the Winneba Sports College to serve as a hub for coaching training, which would help enhance the technical skills of coaches and improve the overall quality of the league.
“We have talked about things that confront our Premier League. We will modernize the Winneba Sports College so that coaches will be trained there to help the league technically,” he stated.
The Winneba Sports College, the country’s main facility for coaching and sports education, has long been in need of infrastructural upgrades and curriculum reforms to meet the standards of modern football.
Adams also addressed the challenge of player retention, recognizing that many of Ghana’s top footballers leave for better financial prospects overseas.
“We will also retain players by giving them some stipend so that they don’t go to other countries to play,” Adams added.
