King Faisal’s Essien is best player

Premier League side Kumasi King Faisal's midfielder Kweku Essien has been named the best player of the just ended premier league season.

Kweku Essien beat off competition from AshantiGold's Alhaji Sannie and Kwadjo Asamoah of Liberty professionals to win the coveted prize in a ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Saturday night.

Essien was outstanding for King Faisal in their Premier League campaign, picking up 10 Most Valuable Player awards in the season.

He was presented with a brand new VW Golf as his prize, after which he told Joy News winning the award will urge him to achieve greater things.

He said he will train harder than he had ever done, an his objective is to emerge Africa's most valuable player in three years.
In other awards, Dutchman Hans Van Der Plyum of Kpando Heart of Lions beat fellow expatriate Mitko Kostadinov Dobrev of Hearts of Oak and AshantiGold's David Duncan to the Coach of the year award.

Lady referee Mercy Tagoe was awarded the most outstanding match official in the league while Eric Afotey Oddai of Great Olympics won the Chairman of the year award.
