Jerry Afriyie completes move to Saudi side Al Qadsiya, set for loan spell at CD Lugo

Ghanaian striker Jerry Afriyie has officially signed with Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiya in a deal that runs until 2028.

As part of the agreement, the 20-year-old will spend the rest of the season on loan with Spanish third-tier side CD Lugo.

Afriyie has emerged as one of Ghana's most promising talents in recent years. He played a pivotal role in securing a gold medal for Ghana at the African Games, scoring the decisive goal in the final against Uganda.

The young forward’s achievements also include being named the Best Player at the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship in Togo, where Ghana’s U20 team finished as runners-up to Nigeria.

His remarkable performance saw him claim the Golden Boot after scoring five goals in five matches.

In a historic milestone, Afriyie became the first player from Ghana's third-tier league to earn a senior national team call-up in November 2024 for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

He marked his debut in style by scoring against Niger, although the Black Stars suffered a narrow 2-1 loss.

Afriyie’s exceptional form drew attention from several clubs, but he ultimately chose Al Qadsiya, who currently sit third in the Saudi Professional League standings.

The move is expected to give the young striker valuable international exposure, starting with his loan spell at CD Lugo, before he joins Al Qadsiya next season.
