Accra Lions FC has announced that Coach Ibrahim Tanko has parted ways with the club after three years, in a mutual decision.
Tanko's time with the club has been marked by significant growth and his leadership has been widely appreciated for its commitment and contributions to the club's vision.
In a smooth transition, Tanko has passed on the reins to German coach Rainer Kraft, who returns to the club with a wealth of experience.
Kraft previously led the Lions to promotion into the Ghana Premier League during his tenure from 2019 to 2021 and is familiar with the club's goal of nurturing young talent and competing at the highest level.
Tanko expressed pride in his time with the team, emphasizing the strong bond he shares with the players and staff.
“I leave the role with immense pride, knowing that Accra Lions is more than just a club—it is family. While I am stepping away to focus on other projects, my bond with the team remains strong, and I will always be available to support the club in any way,” Tanko said.
The club’s management extended their gratitude to Tanko for his invaluable contributions and reassured that the door remains open for his future return.
As Kraft resumes his leadership role, Accra Lions FC is focused on continuing its mission to develop top talent and achieve further success in the Ghana Premier League.
Tanko led Accra Lions to a second-place finish in the Premier League last season. However, the Accra-based side have enjoyed a tough start to the 2024/25 season.
