Consistent Black Stars snub hurt, says Bernard Tekpetey

Ludogorets forward Bernard Tekpetey has admitted that he is hurt by the persistent Black Stars snub despite his top performance.

Despite his stellar performances in the Bulgarian topflight for the past four seasons, Tekpety has consistently been overlooked by the technical handlers of the national team.

Tekpetey has yet to get a call-up since 2017, where he represented the country at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Speaking to Asempa FM, the highly-rated attacker admitted being worried about his Black Stars omission in recent times.

“Sometimes it hurts because, as a player, you know you are playing your best at the highest level,” Tekpetey said.

“Sometimes you are tempted to compare the players called to the national team to yourself. However, I feel it is the decision of the coach to call players who he thinks will suit his plan,” he added.

The forward is currently recovering from an injury he picked up in a Champions League qualifying game against Qarabag. Last season, he scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions for his club.

Since making his debut for the Black Stars back in 2017, the enterprising forward has capped just two times for the national team.
