The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has warned traders occupying spaces near open drains at the Accra Pedestrian Shopping Mall that the assembly would not be responsible for damages in case of any disaster.

Part of the shopping mall gets flooded whenever there is a heavy downpour, forcing traders to close trading well after the rains have subsided.

In reaction to the traders' threat to go back onto the streets should the AMA fail to fix the drainage problem at the mall, Mr. John Appiah, Public Relations Officer at the AMA said the area where the drainage is located was not meant for habitation.

He therefore appealed to the traders to vacate the area to avoid any tragedy.

Mr. Appiah however said the AMA was in consultation with the Water, Works and Housing Ministry to get the drainage problem fixed.
