Former Ghana international, Augustine Ahinful has blamed the Ghana Football Football Association (GFA) for Black Stars' failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)
The senior national team suffered an embarrassing campaign in the qualifiers, recording three draws and three defeats after six games.
Following the team's horrible performances in the qualifiers, Otto Addo, who is the head coach has come under serious criticism with several people calling for his dismissal.
However, Ahinful speaking to Joy Sports said the leadership of the Football Association has failed to fire the best coaches for the Black Stars and blamed them for missing out on the AFCON.
"If they [GFA] had [hired the best of coaches], we wouldn't be here. [I’m not saying] the people they hired are the worst. But if they did hire [the best coaches] and put proper structures in place we might probably would have qualified [for the Afcon]," he said.
He emphasized that while the current coaching staff is not the worst, better choices could have led to a different outcome.
"Otto Addo is always conscious in his approach to the game. I always see him play two defensive midfielders being it playing away games or home games. So I would advise playing away because you are not too sure you can play two defensive midfielders, but when you are at home, you must be offensive," he added.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to decide on the future of Otto Addo following a marathon meeting last week after Black Stars' failure to qualify for the AFCON.
