I want to build a Black Stars team with a playing philosophy - Otto Addo tells GFA

Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, has hinted that he will want to build a disciplined and cohesive team, centred on accountability and trust, during a meeting with the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

A statement by the Ghana FA on Friday, November 29 confirmed that the 47-year-old presented a 56-paged Technical Report to the Executive Council after the team failed to qualify for AFCON 2025.

"Coach Otto Addo accepted full responsibility for the team’s poor performance and acknowledged some shortcomings," a portion of the FA statement said.

The report, the FA says, addressed the team’s shortcomings, and it was interrogated by members of the council and the regional chairmen, with Addo providing additional insights.

"He went on to outline key areas that needed enhancement going forward. He indicated that he intends to build a strong and cohesive system that fosters discipline, accountability, and trust among players and the backroom staff while emphasising a clear and recognisable playing philosophy."

The Executive Council echoed the disappointment of Ghanaians over the Black Stars' performance and reiterated the importance of delivering better results, particularly in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers.

They urged Addo to ensure the team rises to meet the high expectations of the nation.

The GFA further assured that it would consult with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan for the Black Stars, reflecting a collective approach to restoring the team’s former glory.

After Otto Addo’s presentation, some members of the ExCo insisted he should be sacked, while others wanted him retained.

As it stands, Otto Addo's future as Black Stars coach remains undecided.
