Han Van Der Plyuum, coach of Kpando Heart of Lions, believes Hearts of Oak's midfielder Stephen Afedzie should have been nominated among the top three players in the 2006/07 Onetouch Premier league.

"He performed creditably and I strongly believe he deserved to be nominated", he told the Statesports in an exclusive interview at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel where the Onetouch Premiership awards was launched on Wednesday.

The coach said the league needed to be improved as he was personally not happy with the interruptions which disorganised his programme. "It needs to be improved to make it more attractive".

Van Der Plyuum, who has been nominated alongside coaches Miktov Dobrev of Hearts of Oak and David Duncan of AshGold for the coach of the year award, said he was happy to be named among the best coaches and gave the credit to the entire Heart of Lions team.

He was also glad that his Chief Eecutive, Victor Ahiakpor, was named among the Best Chairmen alongside Eric Afotey Odai of Great Olympics and Kudjoe Fianoo of AshGold.

Van Der Plyuum said football was gradually improving in Ghana but noted that there was still the need to adopt an 'all attacking" system to make the game more attractive, as compared to the European leagues. "Ghanaian players are gifted in the game but they lack few techniques that must be corrected by their coaches".

Among the PBL nominees vying for honours are Kweku Essien (King Faisal), Kojo Asamoah (Liberty) and Alhaji Sannie (AshGold) for the Best Player; Isaac Vorsah (Kotoko), Jonathan Quartey (Ash Gold) and Yaya Moahmmed (Tema Youth) for the Best Defender; Ekow Benson (Tema Youth), Alhaji Moro (AshGold) and Emmanuel Clottey (Olympics) for the Discovery of the year.

The nominees for the most promising goalkeeper are Isaac Ocran (All Blacks), Ernest Sowah (Tema Youth) and Joseph Addo (Hasaacas).

Kudjoe Fainoo (AshGold), Victor Ahiakpor (Lions) and Eric Afote Odai (Olympics) are in contention for the Best Chairman, while Cecil Fletcher, Daniel Ofei and Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo are gunning for the Best Referee award. Great Olympics, Heart of Lions and AshGold are running for the Most Impressive Club award.
