Gov’t officials subletting official bungalows

The Eastern Regional Coordinating Director, Mr Samuel Manu, has expressed concern about the subletting of part of government bungalows to people by public servants occupying the bungalows.

He said it had come to the notice of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) that most occupants of government bungalows in the Koforidua Municipality were subletting their boys' quarters to others.

This was revealed at a regional meeting of heads of departments at Koforidua on Tuesday to deliberate on the challenges and achievements of departments.

Mr Manu said the practice did not solve the accommodation problem in the municipality and urged all officers engaged in that business to put a stop to it.

He urged departments that had the resources to put up accommodation for their staff to do so since the RCC would not put up any more accommodation for public servants as duty posts.

Mr Manu suggested to the heads of departments to take advantage of the affordable housing project to acquire residential accommodation for their staff in the region.

An official of the Ghana Standards Board (GSB) told the meeting that sachet water operators who were operating under unhygienic conditions had managed to get the stamp of the board on their products to deceive the public.

He assured the meeting that the board would from next week embark on a vigorous exercise to clamp down on those offenders.

Other matters that were discussed at the meeting bothered on road construction in the region, water problems, sanitation and health.
