2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Otto Addo names Jordan Ayew as captain for final games against Angola and Niger

Cup of Nations 2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Otto Addo names Jordan Ayew as captain for final games against Angola and Niger
THU, 07 NOV 2024

Ghana coach Otto Addo has named Jordan Ayew as captain for the final round of games in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars will conclude their qualifying games against already-qualified Angola and bottom rock Niger next week.

Ghana will travel to face the Palancas Negras in Luanda on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro before playing host to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.

During the squad announcement on Thursday, Otto Addo confirmed Jordan Ayew as his captain for the upcoming games in the absence of Andre Ayew and Thomas Partey.

The move stem from Otto Addo’s recent meeting with the Leicester City striker last week.

During the October international break, Otto Addo opted for West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus as skipper for the double-header against Sudan which attracted a lot of criticisms, where Ghana fell short and derailed qualification chances.

With Thomas Partey now out of the squad, Jordan Ayew will now lead the side as skipper for the games.

Ghana are winless after four games after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Angola in their opener before a 1-1 draw against Niger.

The Black Stars in a doubleheader against Sudan were held to a goalless scoreline at the Accra Sports Stadium before a 2-0 defeat in the return leg staged in Libya.

To qualify, the Black Stars must win the games and hope Sudan lose against Niger and Angola.
