Former Ghana Premier League striker, Yahaya Mohammed has criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the Black Stars' recent struggles on the pitch.

The senior national team has seen a series of disappointing results in recent games, including their ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. After four matches, Ghana remains winless, with only two points from two draws and two losses, leaving them in third place in their group. With just two points out of a possible 12, the team risks missing out on the AFCON tournament for the first time in 20 years.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Mohammed, a former Asante Kotoko striker, expressed frustration with the GFA, saying they continue to select players unfamiliar with the country’s football culture and style.

"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is not doing enough to ensure the Black Stars perform. They invite players from all sorts of places to join the team without knowing how we play. These players don't know our DNA.

He pointed out examples, such as Antoine Semenyo's recent performance for his club against Manchester City, which he felt was unrecognizable from his play with Ghana. He also highlighted the role of Thomas Partey, who often plays as a right-back for Arsenal but struggles to replicate his club form with the national team.

"Over the weekend, we saw Semenyo against Manchester City and I asked myself, is this same player who plays for Ghana?

Thomas Partey mostly play at right back for Arsenal but can he do the same thing for Black Stars?

According to Mohammed, this issue stems from the GFA’s approach to player selection.

"All these things fall at the doorstep of the Ghana Football Association because they need to do things right. These players playing abroad always feel they are doing us a favour by playing for us which should not be. They don't understand that we don't like to draw as a country and we don't like defeat but when we lose or draw, they don't care so the GFA must wake up and ensure these things stop," he added.

Ghana is set to return to international competition later this month, as they fight to secure their place in the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco. They’ll face Angola in Luanda on November 15, followed by a home match against Niger Republic three days later.
