Chelsea rising star Josh Acheampong is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a new contract with the club, despite recent tensions surrounding his contract situation, according to Football Insider.
The talented defender, who is English-born with Ghanaian roots, found himself sidelined from the Chelsea squad due to his hesitation to commit to a new deal.
The Athletic noted on October 22 that Acheampong would not feature for either the first team or the development sides until an agreement was reached.
Nevertheless, it appears that Acheampong is now set to sign a contract extension with the Blues.
The 18-year-old, who has attracted interest from Liverpool, was one of several academy graduates to make his debut towards the end of the 2023/24 season under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
He made his first appearance for the club during a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in May, coming on for the final 12 minutes of the match.
Positioned as Chelsea's third-choice right-back behind Reece James and Malo Gusto, Acheampong has made limited appearances this season.
Under Enzo Maresca, he played 27 minutes in an EFL Cup match against Barrow in September, marking his only game time thus far.
In addition, he has appeared in three matches in Premier League 2, contributing one assist.
