Hearts of Oak were confirmed as premier league winners in Ghana after a 1-0 win against Berekum Arsenal on Sunday, finishing five points ahead of AshantiGold.

Stanley Afedzie's 35th minute winner ensured Hearts their 19th title, one off the record held by Asante Kotoko.

Although Hearts had an unassailable lead going into the final weekend of matches, their position was still unclear as the Ghana Football Association hastily dealt with a series of disciplinary decisions and match results involving second placed AshantiGold on the eve of the final programme of league games.

AshantiGold grabbed a spot in next year's MTN CAF Champions League with a 1-0 win over the Feyenoord Academy, who have been relegated.
