Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Enoch Morrison has disclosed that his decision to join Gor Mahia was largely influenced by the more lucrative financial offer from the Kenyan club.

Morrison, who recently signed a two-year deal with Gor Mahia after his contract with Kotoko was terminated, was also reportedly a target for Hearts of Oak. However, he chose to move to East Africa due to the higher salary offered by Gor Mahia.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Morrison cited the substantial pay increase as a key reason for his decision. He criticized the salary structure in Ghanaian football, noting that no player in the Ghana Premier League currently earns more than 12,000 cedis.

"I would have joined Hearts of Oak if their offer had been even remotely close to what Gor Mahia is paying me. The salaries in Ghana are quite low compared to what foreign clubs offer, making it difficult for local teams to compete," Morrison said.

He highlighted the need for Ghanaian clubs to better support their players, suggesting that the current financial conditions make it difficult to sustain a football career in Ghana.

"During my time at Kotoko, I couldn’t earn a decent living. I believe that players at clubs like Hearts or Kotoko should earn at least Gh¢12,000 to Gh¢13,000 to sustain themselves properly," he added.

Morrison concluded by urging local clubs to address these financial issues, stressing the need for improved support for players.
