MON, 05 AUG 2024 LISTEN

Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati narrowly missed qualifying for the men's 100-meter finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing ninth in Heat One of the semifinals.

Azamati recorded a time of 10.17 seconds, slower than his 10.06-second run in the previous round that had secured his semifinal spot. At the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, Azamati also did not advance to the semifinals.

The first heat was won by Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, who clocked a personal best of 9.81 seconds.

Reigning world champion Noah Lyles secured second place with a time of 9.83 seconds, while Great Britain’s Louie Hinchliffe finished third at 9.97 seconds.

The top two finishers in each heat automatically qualify for the finals, with the remaining two spots awarded to the fastest runners across all three heats.

In Heat Two, Akani Simbine of South Africa and Letsile Tebogo of Botswana secured automatic qualification by finishing first and second, respectively. Scroll down to see the qualification times from the first two heats.
