Sunyani-based national cyclist Anthony Boakye has been selected as one of nine talented young athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games volunteering program.
Anthony Boakye, a standout cyclist, was chosen by the French Embassy to represent Ghana as a volunteer for the Olympic Games in Paris.
According to Fofogan Duku, a representative from the French Embassy, the Paris 2024 adventure is set to continue for Anthony as he embarks on his volunteering journey. He will be hosted in Caen, France, by the Ufolep association for a one-year International Solidarity Volunteering (VSI) mission.
Duku highlighted Boakye's discipline and passion for sports as key factors that earned him this opportunity from the French embassy. "Bravo to him for his commitment and passion for sports. We wish him an excellent mission and an unforgettable experience in France," he added.
As the France Volontaires’ ambassador for Paris 2024, Boakye was invited to the Quai d'Orsay as part of the Olympic Games Volunteering Program. He had the honor of representing Ghana at a meeting organized by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which brought together volunteers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The event was attended by Stéphane Séjourné, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs; Anne-Marie Descôtes, General Secretary; Yann Delaunay, Managing Director of France Volontaires; and representatives from the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Committees.
The French Ambassador to Ghana, HE Jules-Armand Aniambossou, delivered speeches celebrating the strong relationship between Ghana and France.
Ghana's Sports Minister, Mustapha Yssif, also acknowledged the support from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the French Embassy in Ghana, the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), UFOLEP Nationale, the Ministry of Youth & Sports-GH, the National Youth Authority, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration.
"Big congratulations to Anthony Boakye for his commitment to representing Ghana on the international platform. We wish you all the best," he expressed.
Anthony Boakye has previously won the prestigious SWAG Cyclist of the Year award and has received accolades from various African countries.
