Middle League Deciders Today

Bolga Catholic Stars are bent on making history today by becoming the first team to send Premier League action to the Upper Eeast Region when they battle fellow contenders, Wa All Stars, in a fierce Middle League decider at Swedru.

The club, with a religious tag, believes the time is ripe for them to book a place in the Premiership after two successive fiascos.

Having weighed their chances against All Stars, all Catholic Stars are asking for is fair officiating to enable them to snatch a much-needed win to power them through from Zone One.

However, their determination is expected to face stiff resistance from FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi's All Stars, who are also thinking of taking the Premiership stuff to the Upper West Region after years of oblivion.

The outcome of the other Zone One match involving Lepo Stars and B.A. United at Dansoman will be merely for the records as both teams are already out of the race.

In Zone Two, Mine Stars and Samartex who trail highly-favoured Kessben FC still hope to breast the tape first.

However, that will only be possible when either side wins by at least a three-goal margin in their clash at Koforidua, while Kessben suffer a similar defeat to bottom-placed Eleven Wise at Nkawkaw.

Anything short of that will see Kessben celebrating their debut Premiership berth in grand style all the way from the mountains to the Garden City.

Just like the other zones, Mariners and Abedi Pele's Nania FC are neck and neck for qualification in Zone Three. Both teams have four points apiece, with Mariners having a goal advantage.

If both Mariners and Nania win their respective games against Mighty Jets and Okwawu United at Cape Coast and Sekondi respectively, then the tie will have to be settled with goals.

However, Nania seem to have a relatively easier assignment against Okwawu United who are already down and out. The same cannot be said of the Cape Coast game as Mighty Jets who also have a chance to qualify will go all out against Mariners.

All things being equal, the three Premier League candidates for next season will be declared by the close of day.
