I wish Kwesi Nyantaky could return as GFA president - Derek Boateng

Former Black Stars midfielder, Derek Boateng has praised former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi, adding that he wishes he could return to lead the football circle.

Mr Nyantakyi is regarded as one of the most successful presidents of the country's football governing body.

Speaking in an interview, the former Fulham and Elche midfielder expressed regret that Nyantakyi's term was prematurely ended due to the Number 12 expose by undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which damaged his reputation.

Despite the scandal, Boateng believes that Ghana Football would have thrived under Nyantakyi's guidance.

"I wish Nyantakyi could oversee Ghana Football again. His track record speaks for itself, and it's unfortunate how things turned out," he told Accra-based Kingdom FM.

"I cannot say whether the accusations against him were true, as I wasn't present. However, I know he made significant contributions to the sport," he added.

Under the auspices of Kwesi Nyantakyi, the country won the U-20 World Cup and qualified the Black Stars to its maiden World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006.

The senior national team subsequently played in the 2010 and 2014 global showpieces in South Africa and Brazil respectively.

The team also played in the 2010 and 2015 AFCON finals but failed to clinch the trophy.
