Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has strongly criticized the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the deteriorating state of the Ho Sports Complex.

Despite a $4 million investment in its construction, the complex, which hosted the 2023 Independence Day celebrations, is now in disrepair.

Dr Abbey, who also hosts Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, questioned why the responsible sporting associations built such a facility only to neglect its upkeep.

Abbey, a financier of Heart of Lions, condemned the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other relevant agencies for allowing the stadium, funded by taxpayer money, to fall into disrepair, thus wasting public resources.

He expressed frustration over the lack of accountability for those responsible for maintaining the stadium, despite its rapid decline in condition.

“The Ho Sports Complex, which was used for Independence Day last year, has now turned into this state, even though it was built with taxpayers' money. The decision to put the facility there was made by some people who did the needs assessment and everything, but whatever went into it, we do not know.

"I am saying that how do you sink millions of dollars into something like this, and just after a year, this is what happened, and people still have their jobs?” he fumed.

In a video shared by sports journalist Saddick Adams on X, the pitch is seen overgrown with weeds, and various seats have been removed or are broken. The stadium's roofing and other structural elements appear fragile, making the venue unsuitable for any sporting events.

The stadium’s poor condition has raised concerns about the commitment of both the government and sporting associations to properly maintain the facility after its initial commissioning.
