Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed that his motivation to plan for life after football was inspired by his teammate, Samuel Osei Kuffour.
Gyan, who retired from professional football in June 2023, emphasized the importance of preparing for life beyond the sport during his appearance at the Afro Sport Summit.
Reflecting on his playing days, Gyan shared how Kuffour consistently encouraged their teammates to think ahead and prepare for their post-football careers.
“I drew my inspiration from Sammy Osei Kuffour; he always encouraged and reminded us during playing days to get something done before our time as footballers came to an end,” Gyan mentioned.
The former Sunderland striker urged young footballers to start considering their future careers early, ensuring they have a solid foundation for life after football.
Gyan, who remains Ghana's all-time leading goal scorer with 51 goals and Africa's top World Cup scorer, stressed the need for athletes to be proactive about their future.
Asamoah Gyan and Samuel Osei Kuffour were teammates during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
