Tonight’s Indece Boxing Bonanza
Boxing fans will have something to cheer about tonight at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex when 18 boxers clash in a Golden Jubilee Independence Boxing Bonanza.
The bill, under the auspices of the Ghana @ 50 Secretariat, is being promoted by the Commonwealth Sports Award, Obric Sala Promotions, Metro TV and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
The main attraction for the night will be the three final Commonwealth eliminators, which promise to thrill fans with non-stop action.
Starting the hostilities in the welterweight division will be a former Commonwealth title-holder, Joshua 'Bukom Tsatsu' Okine, against former National Champion, Philip 'Sweet Pea' Kotey of the Attoh Quarshie Gym.
The interesting twist to this must-watch bout is the fact that the two boxers were to face each other last year but the fight was cancelled due to a last-minute injury Kotey sustained.
In the middleweight Commonwealth eliminator, Nigerian Michael Gbenga and Attoh Quarshie Gym's Charles 'The Crusader' Adamu will slug it out in a fight which was rescheduled from last year.
Both boxers have done a lot of bragging over the last two weeks and will have to prove themselves tonight.
George 'Red Tiger' Ashie, a product of the Attoh Quarshie Gym, will face Fit Square Gym's Yakubu Amidu in a final super featherweight eliminator.
Ghana's Lartei 'Bukom Jah' Lartey will face Kelvin Onyango of Kenya in an African Boxing Union (ABU) Super lightweight vacant title bout while another Ghanaian, Lante Addy, challenges Nigeria's Ibrahim Adewale for the ABU bantamweight title.
In a lightweight championship eliminators, Samuel Amoako fights Bilal Mohammed while Ben 'Congo Soldier' Ankrah defends his national super lightweight title against Herbert Mensah.
Joseph 'King Kong' Agbeko comes up against Baba Nzor in an eight-round super bantamweight contest.
Braggart, philosopher and crowd entertainer Brimah 'Bukom Banku' Kamoko, will test his strength against Baameyi in a light heavyweight contest.
