Black Princesses forward Mafia Nyame is eager to make a significant impact at her second FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, set to take place in Colombia.

The AS FAR player, who was part of the Black Princesses squad in the previous World Cup held in Costa Rica, is looking forward to more game time after making only one substitute appearance in the last tournament.

Nyame, a former player for Faith Ladies, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to represent Ghana once again on the world stage.

“It is always an honour to be called to the national team to serve the nation wholeheartedly," she told ghanafa.org.

“I represented Ghana at the 2022 edition, but it didn’t go as planned. This is an opportunity to make history. Everyone in camp is working hard to make the final squad for the World Cup. There are many talented players here, and everyone is putting in extra effort.

“I featured in only one game as a sub in Costa Rica, and hopefully, if I make it to this year’s World Cup, I’ll perform well and leave a mark. I believe this team will make it out of the group stage for the first time in our history. The technical team is doing their best, taking us through a series of trainings.

“We urge Ghanaians to keep supporting us as they always do, and we will continue to make them proud," Nyame added.

The Black Princesses will face Austria in their opening match on Monday, September 2, followed by matches against Japan and New Zealand in Group E.

The FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup is scheduled to take place in Colombia from Saturday, August 31 to Sunday, September 22, 2024.

This will mark the Black Princesses of Ghana's seventh consecutive appearance at the World Cup, having previously participated in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022.
