Three months after hosting the 2023 African Games, the Borteyman Sports Complex has been repurposed as a church venue.
Originally built for sporting events at a cost of $145 million and managed by the National Sports Authority, the facility is now being used for worship by some church congregations.
In a viral video, one of the arenas at the Borteyman Sports Complex is shown transformed into a church hall, surprising many. The video features members of Christ Embassy Church, Legon Central Assembly, conducting a service in the space.

Earlier, on June 4, University of Ghana students were reportedly taken on a "fun trip" that led them to the Borteyman Sports Complex for a church service instead.
The report did not name the church but indicated that the venue has been used for worship for some time.
The Borteyman Sports Complex includes a 1,000-seater swimming pool with a 10-lane competition pool and an eight-lane warm-up pool. It also has a multipurpose sports hall seating 1,000 spectators for events such as basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis, and weightlifting.
Additionally, the complex features a 500-seater temporary dome for sports like handball, volleyball, judo, karate, taekwondo, fencing, and arm-wrestling, along with a five-court tennis complex that includes a 1,000-seater center court.
