Former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has expressed his disagreement with the necessity of the Save Ghana Football demonstration.
The demonstration, which took place in February and drew hundreds of football enthusiasts, was initiated by a coalition of journalists who believe that Ghanaian football has reached an unprecedented low and that a restructuring of football governance is imperative to address the situation.
During the demonstration, participants presented a 15-point petition to Parliament, the Sports Ministry, and the Ghana Football Association.
In response to the demonstration, Kwesi Nyantakyi speaking to Onua TV said, "I don't agree with the Save Ghana Football demonstration. The protest was not necessary. They should have simply put their petition on paper and submitted it to the GFA."
Ghana's disappointing elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations served as a catalyst for the Save Ghana Football movement.
Reflecting on the state of Ghanaian football since his departure, Nyantakyi acknowledged, "Ghana football has declined since I left. Since 2019, we have consistently exited tournaments in the first round or even during the group stage. So, if you plot it on a graph, you'd see a sharp decline."
