‘My ‘pizza haircut,’ celebration landed me a business deal’ — Dominic Oduro

Former Ghana forward, Dominic Oduro, has shared the story behind his famous and unconventional hairstyles during his playing days in Major League Soccer (MLS), revealing that one particular haircut celebration led to a lucrative business deal.

Oduro, known for his different hairstyles that often stole the spotlight, gained attention not just for his goal-scoring prowess but also for his unique on-field appearances.

One memorable instance occurred in 2014 when he played for the Columbus Crew against the New York Red Bulls.

During that game, Oduro showcased his love for pizza by having a pizza design on the side of his hair.

Following a successful performance that included a goal, he celebrated by running to the fans and pretending to have a bite of pizza.

The distinctive celebration went viral, capturing the imagination of fans and eventually catching the attention of a major pizza chain.

Papa John Pizza, appreciating the marketing genius behind Oduro's pizza-themed haircut celebration, approached the striker with a business deal.

"There was one time I put a pizza on the side of my hair, and by the way, I love pizza, I was able to get a deal from Papa John Pizza just for doing that.

“That is one good reaction from that, so that was a good business adventure for me. That one hit the spot," Oduro revealed in an interview with 3Sports.

Acknowledging the impact of such celebrations on fan engagement, Oduro expressed his motivation for the unique hairstyles, stating, "The fans love it so you just have to do it for the fans. We play for them."

Over his illustrious career in the MLS, the former FC Dallas forward made 345 appearances and scored 63 goals while representing eight different clubs.
