Rigobert Song has announced his departure as Cameroon's head coach, according to the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), Samuel Eto'o, speaking on Wednesday.
Cameroon faced elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16 in January by eventual runners-up Nigeria.
Fecafoot President Samuel Eto'o explained: "We have not reached our objectives, and the executive committee and I are not inclined to renew the contract with Song."
Song, a former international teammate of Eto'o, took over as the Cameroon boss in February 2022. He played a pivotal role in guiding the Indomitable Lions to a thrilling playoff win over Algeria in extra time, securing their spot at the Qatar World Cup.
Despite a stunning upset against Brazil in their final match, the five-time African champions suffered a group-stage exit from the tournament.
Eto'o continued, saying, "Song contributed a great deal to the team, and now it's time to focus on the future."
The former Liverpool midfielder won only six of his 23 matches while in charge.
