President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that all preparations for the upcoming African Games have been finalized.

He commended the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee and the Sports Ministry for overcoming challenges and achieving milestones in readiness for the event.

Scheduled to run from March 8 to March 23, the 13th African Games will predominantly take place at the University of Ghana Stadium and Borteyman Sports Complex, hosting a variety of sporting disciplines.

Addressing the Parliament, President Akufo-Addo expressed his pleasure in reporting Ghana's readiness to host athletes from across the continent for the 13th edition of the African Games. He highlighted the significance of this occasion, noting that it marks Ghana's inaugural hosting of these games.

“Mr Speaker, it gives me great pleasure to report that all the preparations are ready for Ghana to welcome sportsmen and women from around the continent to participate in the 13th edition of the African Games. It seems incredible, but this is the first time that Ghana will be hosting these games.”

Despite facing financial hurdles amidst the preparations, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the determination and resilience that enabled Ghana to proceed with hosting the event. He affirmed that all arrangements have been completed, ensuring a successful execution of the games.

“It has taken a lot of courage to have persisted with the decision to host the games, especially when our financial problems came in the midst of the preparations. But I am glad we went ahead. The preparations are all complete.”

Moreover, this year's African Games will serve as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in seven different disciplines, further enhancing the significance and anticipation surrounding the event.
