President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has commended Andre Ayew for his sincere apology following Ghana's early departure from the 34th edition of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.

Ghana's performance in the tournament, accumulating only 2 points, fell below expectations, disappointing fans and disheartening players with another group phase exit.

However, amidst the disappointment, Andre Ayew, the team's captain, took full responsibility and offered a heartfelt apology.

Recognizing the genuineness of Ayew's apology, President Akufo Addo praised the player for his humility and accountability.

Addressing the nation during his State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, President Akufo Addo acknowledged the disappointment caused by Ghana's performance in the recent AFCON tournament.

He stated, "The recent AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire was probably the lowest point of the Black Stars' performance, and has left the nation saddened."

"However, I am quite certain that the young men and the technical handlers would, themselves, have wanted to make our nation proud, and I believe that the captain, Andre Dede Ayew, meant every word when he rendered heartfelt apologies on behalf of his team-mates to all Ghanaians for the team’s early exit," he added.
