Côte d'Ivoire's rising star, Simon Adingra, reflects on his unforgettable moment as he helped secure victory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Nigeria, marking it as a highlight of his career.
The 22-year-old played a pivotal role, contributing assists for both goals scored by Cotê d’Ivoire and earning the prestigious TotalEnergies Man of the Match award for his stellar performance.
Adingra showcased his prowess on the flanks, relentlessly tormenting the Nigerian defense with his dribbling skills, penetrating runs, and pinpoint crosses throughout the match.
In his reflection on the triumph, the talented forward emphasized the collective effort of his teammates, acknowledging their crucial role in securing Cotê d’Ivoire's third AFCON title in history.
"It's an incredible feeling to be crowned Africa champions. This victory is a testament to the unity and dedication of our team," expressed Adingra, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion.
"I've just lived through one of the most remarkable moments of my life, and it's all thanks to the relentless effort of every member of the team," he added.
Although William Troost-Ekong found the net first for the Super Eagles in the opening half, second-half goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller sealed the victory for the host nation, securing their place in football history.
