The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament will come to its conclusion on Sunday, February 11.
The tournament which started on January 14 has been nothing short of exciting.
In the four weeks the continental gathered in Ivory Coast, the world has watched on as 24 national teams put on a show in games that witnessed goals galore.
Ahead of the final on Sunday, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana has clinched the third-place medal after beating DR Congo.
In the game played at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny, there was no goal in 90 minutes despite the many chances created by the two national teams.
When it came down to penalty shootouts, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams pulled off some heroics as he made two brilliant stops to lead the Bafana Bafana to win the third-place medal.
After the third-place match on Saturday night, all is now set for the big finish on Sunday night.
Host nation, Ivory Coast heads into the fixture against Nigeria with the over 27 million Ivorians rooting for the Elephants to clinch the trophy.
The Super Eagles led by 2023 CAF Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen are favourite for the trophy.
In the run-up to the final, Nigeria has not lost a single game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Eagles boast of four wins and two draws on their road to the final.
For Ivory Coast, the Elephants have lost two games, drawn one, and won three games in their journey to the final.
