Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has shed light on the Ghana Football Association's attempt to secure his allegiance for the national team, revealing that he declined the offer as he had already set his sights on representing the Netherlands.

The talented Dutch-born Ghanaian had the unique choice of playing for Ghana, the Netherlands, or England at the international level, but ultimately made the decision to don the orange jersey.

Frimpong made his senior debut for the Netherlands national team in the Euro qualifiers against France in October, officially concluding any possibility of representing Ghana on the international stage.

"That was nice to finally make my debut against France. It was a nice game, and I was really happy about it," Frimpong shared with Joy Sports.

The 22-year-old revealed that despite a conversation with the Ghanaian coach, his mind was already made up regarding his international allegiance.

“The coach [Chris Hughton] called me, I had a conversation with him but my mind was already made up,” he said.

Frimpong has been in outstanding form in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen, showcasing his attacking prowess from the right-back position.

His performances have contributed to Leverkusen's success, and he has amassed an impressive 13 goals across all competitions for the German outfit.
