KRC Genk Technical Director, Dimitri De Conde says Joseph Paintsil is happy to be at the club.
The 25-year-old winger was heavily tipped to move from the Jupiler Pro League to join English Championship side, Southampton this summer.
However, the deal fell through at the latter stage of the transfer window.
De Conde in an interview with Het Belang van Limburg touched on the reason Paintsil’s purported deal with Southampton collapsed.
“Joseph had indicated in several conversations that he feels good here and does not see Southampton as the next step in his career.”
Paintsil assisted Andi Zeqiri’s goal in Genk’s 2-0 win over Union Saint-Gilloise in the past round of league games. Alieu Fadera replaced Paintsil in the 58th minute.
Former Tema Youth player Paintsil has a goal and three assists in 10 games in all competitions this season.
