The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Adjei, has urged the electorate in the Nkoranza North Constituency not to be deceived by the current development projects being executed by the ruling NPP in the constituency.
According to him, if it had not been the by-election in the constituency, the area would not have seen any meaningful project and added that those projects would be abandoned as soon as the election was over.
Dr Adjei was addressing a rally at the Kranka Lorry Park in the Nkoranza North Constituency on Friday, as part of efforts by his party to win tomorrow's by-election in the area.
“You gave the NPP the opportunity to prove themselves but they have not kept faith with you, until this last hour when they need your votes badly. Now they are moving in hastily to bring in the development projects you were to enjoy long before now as a way to entice you to vote for them”, he pointed out.
Dr Adjei, therefore, urged the people not to allow themselves to be deceived by the projects since every community had the right to get its fair share of development projects.
“Since Nkoranza North is part of Ghana and the people pay their taxes, they should not see their votes as the carrot to attract development projects. You should rather vote for a selfless and dedicated person who has the constituency at heart and that person is in the person of the NDC's candidate, Dr Kofi Amoako-Gyampa,” he said.
He said the NDC candidate had already proved himself to the people by offering them selfless and dedicated service and this was the time for the people to reciprocate by giving him their mandate to represent them in parliament so as to bring the needed development to the area.
Dr Adjei urged the people to ignore the vile propaganda being waged against the NDC in the area to the effect that because it was in the opposition when the people voted for its candidate he would not be able to go to the President to lobby for development projects for the area.
The former Vice-President and flag bearer of the NDC for the 2008 elections, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, reiterated the call on the people to vote massively for the party's candidate since he was a man of sterling character and had the leadership qualities to represent them in Parliament.
He said it was time for the people to reward Dr Amoako-Gyampa for his selfless and dedicated service by voting massively for him in the by-election since he was their kith and kin and had served his people and community sincerely as a medical doctor.
Prof. Mills said the NDC was poised to win the 2008 elections and form the next government so people of the area should vote for its candidate to enable him become a key member of government when the NDC came to power.
The National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, said the party had information that the NPP had put in place a grand design to rig the election and that they were poised to resist any such attempt.
He said the NDC would use all former ministers, MPs and sitting MPs as polling station agents on voting day so there was no way the NPP could rig the election.
