The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) says the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing League cannot feature professional bouts since it has not sanctioned any such fights.

The GBA has, however, encouraged the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) to concentrate on the amateur league in its drive to unearth talents and promote the sport at the grassroot.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Moses Foh-Amoaning, Chairman of the GBA, said the amateur league in the region had been fashioned out as a production unit for the development of boxing talents.

The Vice Chairman of the GAABA, Gideon Quartey, was reported in the March 7 issue of the Daily Graphic as suggesting that his outfit was “talking to the likes of Alhaji Toufik of Ambition Promotions and Samir Captan of the Ghana Boxing Authority and soon we will have at least two professional fights on each bill”.

But Mr Foh-Amoaning said the amateur boxing league would be replicated in the other regions to dovetail into the national league and the national vision for boxing.
