Exclusive News Ga Mantse Homowo Charity Cup called off

The highly anticipated Ga Mantse Homowo charity cup between Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics has been called off, organizers announced.

The match was scheduled to be played on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

However, a late withdrawal by Accra Great Olympics forced the cancellation.

"The Homowo cup match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics scheduled for Sunday, August 20, 2023, has been called off. This development has been necessitated by a late withdrawal from the said match by Accra Great Olympics," said Samuel Anim Addo, Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

He offered apologies on behalf of the organizers, noting “We apologise unreservedly to Nii Dr Ayi Bonte-Gbese Mantse, the Ghana Football Association, Accra Hearts of Oak SC, the media, and all football enthusiasts for this unfortunate development.”

Mr. Anim Addo, who is a key member of the event's organizing team, tweeted the announcement on Friday, August 18.

Ga Mantse Nii Dr Ayi Bonte-Gbese, who initiated the charity cup, according to the communique, expressed desire to engage Great Olympics to rescind their decision.

The charity cup was meant to raise funds for educational and health initiatives for the Ga community.

The organizers said they will announce a new date if the two clubs can reach an agreement to reschedule the charity match.
