Ghana is in the reckoning of picking another award next month after the senior men's team, the Black Stars won Africa's 2006 National Team of the Year prize.

The senior national team, the Black Stars after an impressive run at the World Cup where they became the continent's only country to make into the round of 16 picked the National Team of the Year award category.

And at the Glo-CAF awards in Accra on Thursday, the Black Stars came tops ahead of reigning African champions Egypt and Ivory Coast to pick the award.

In April, Ghana stands the chance of picking up another award.

The Black Stars, has been selected as one of six finalists for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year award.

The award winner would be announced in Barcelona on April 2.

Ghana qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals and reached the round of 16 to earn the nomination.

The other finalists in his category include:

Lewis Hamilton, England: Became first black driver to compete in Formula One at age 22.

Amelie Mauresmo, France: Won her first Grand Slam tennis tournament.

Britta Steffen, Germany: Won four gold medals in European Swimming Championships.

Mia Xiaoxu, China: Won Golden Ball and Shoe in FIFA Under 20 World Championship at age 18.

Palm Bay High School graduate Xavier Carter: Carter, 20, ran the second-fastest 200 meters ever and won four NCAA titles to earn the nomination

The winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards, as voted for by the members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, will be announced during a televised Awards Ceremony staged at Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona.
