A health fitness walk being organised in connection with Ghana's Golden Jubilee celebration, is to take place on March, 3.

This year's exercise, which is dubbed, "Red Bull Independence Fitness Walk," will start from the forecourt of Maximum Gym and go through the Dansoman Roundabout to Zodiac, then to Zongo Junction, and the Obetsebi-Lamptey Circle.

From there, the expected 1,500 walkers will proceed to the Ring Road Central, to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, turn right through Adabraka, Kingsway and the main road from Circle to the Central District Business of Accra and finally converge at Mantse Agboona on the forecourt of James Town Palace.

The walk, which is being organised by mPowa-Pak, sole distributors of Red Bull energy drink, in collaboration with Maximum Gym and Fitness Centre at Dansoman, was initiated three years ago, with mPowa Pak, Maximum Gym, Capital 02, Benco Hospitex and Voltic Mineral Water as the major sponsors.

Carlos Fugar, Operations Manager of mPowa-pak Limited, who disclosed these to the Times, said the walk is to demonstrate to and educate the public on the vitality of health fitness to the growth of Ghana's economy and the need for all Ghanaians to adopt fitness habit to ensure a healthy society to enhance productivity.

The theme for this year's walk; "Total body fitness for elevation," he pointed out, has been chosen to correspond with the Golden Jubilee celebration vision to move higher in the individual's endeavour and move on as a nation.

"As Ghana celebrates its 50th anniversary, the need for a strong and healthy population cannot be over emphasised. Hence, we are calling on all fitness clubs, professionals, politicians, health workers, the media and the whole nation to join in the Golden Jubilee Red Bull Independence Fitness Walk to show the world how fit Ghana is", he said.

Mr. Fugar said that participation in the walk is open to all irrespective of age and sex, as has been in the previous exercises, "because we believe everybody needs a strong health and fitness at every instance of his or her life".

He hinted that personalities who have so far declared their intention to participate in the walk include William Boafo, Deputy Defence Minister, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Minister for Education, Science and Sports and his deputy O. B. Amoah, Amailey Tagoe, Member of Parliament and former deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister and Ade Coker, former vice chairman of the Ghana Football Association.

He added that the Chief Executive Officer of mPowa-Pak, Raymond Smith, as well as the Austrian Consul will be part of the exercise, adding that a high-powered delegation from the base of Red Bull energy drink in Austria will also join the walk.

He therefore invited the general public to join in the walk.
