Mubarak Wakaso, best friend to late Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu has paid tribute to him in a new post on social media again.
Wakaso reposted a picture Atsu posted on June 29, 2022, in which he was sitting bear-chested and wearing sunglasses.
The post was captioned with a sad emoji, reflecting Wakaso's grief over the loss of his friend.
The late Atsu, who was only 31 years old, was caught up in a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing more than 54,000 people in both countries.
He had gone missing following the collapse of his apartment in Hatay.
Despite initial reports that he had been pulled alive from the rubble, Atsu's body was later found and flown back to Ghana for burial.
Hundreds of mourners, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, gathered at the Forecourt of the Banquet Hall in Accra on Thursday, March 17, 2023, to pay their last respects to the late Atsu.
The footballer had a successful career, spending four seasons at Chelsea before a permanent transfer to Newcastle in 2017.
He signed in September for Turkish Super Lig side Hatayspor, based in Hatay, near the epicenter of the earthquake.
Atsu was also a key member of the Ghana national team, earning 60 caps and scoring 10 goals before his retirement in 2019.
His sudden death shocked the football world and left his family, friends, and fans in mourning.
Wakaso's tribute to Atsu is a reminder of the close bond the two players shared.
They had been friends for many years, having played together in the Black Stars on several occasions.
Atsu's passing has undoubtedly left a void in Wakaso's life, and his tribute is a touching way to remember his friend.
