2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Bechem United striker Hafiz Konkoni earned Chris Hughton's praise

Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton has praised Hafiz Konkoni for his impressive showing at training.

The Bechem United striker was handed a call-up to the camp of the team ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Madagascar.

Konkoni was involved in the Tuesday training session at the Accra Sports Stadium having exercised separately on the first day.

Hughton speaking to the press on Tuesday lauded Konkoni's maturity as well as his potential.

“I was fortunate to watch him live last weekend. I have been able to watch him on video. I thought he did well today [in training]. It wasn’t a surprise because he is a player I have enjoyed watching.

“He is a young player so I think he has a lot of development still. Speaking to him I think he is quite a mature player for his age,” Chris Hughton told the media on Tuesday.

Following the absence of both Inaki Williams and Antoine Semenyo, Hafiz Konkoni could stand a chance of making his senior debut against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18 as the Black Stars seek victory in their bid to seal qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ivory Coast.

Konkoni ended the Ghana Premier League season as the second top scorer with 15 goals.

The team will continue with the training sessions for two more days before travelling to Antananarivo on Friday.
