Sacking Yaw Preko not the reason for our struggle - Great Olympics chief

JUN 10, 2023 LISTEN

Accra Great Olympics Communications Director, Saint Osei says their struggle is not as a result of sacking Yaw Preko.

Preko, who is a former Ghana international replaced Annor Walker as head coach prior to the start of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

However, the Wonder Club parted ways with Preko in February with Bismark Kobi Mensah taking as the head trainer.

Despite relocating to Sogakope Park from the Accra Sports Stadium for their home matches, the two-time Ghana Premier League champions are still facing relegation as they sit 16th with 42 points.

“We didn’t have anything against Yaw [Preko] and I have minutes to back this. Before you hire a coach, there are clauses that both parties agree on. For instance ‘in the event where you are unable to amass this number of points, this is what is going to happen’. So if the coach agrees and we tell him to step down it doesn’t mean we have something against him,” he told Peace FM.

“Yaw is a good coach but sometimes the technique you adopt may not yield the desired results. So the coach is supposed to be relieved of his work so that his mind can be refreshed.

“It will interest you to know that Yaw Preko can take another team and win the league with them that is why we don’t sack coaches but sit with them and agree together to part ways.

Great Olympics will welcome Nsoatreman in their final game of the season on Sunday at the Sogakope Park as they aim to retain their Ghana Premier League status.
