Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, has made a passionate plea to the Ghanaian public, urging them to wholeheartedly support Asamoah Gyan's under-16 tournament.

Appiah emphasized the crucial role this tournament plays in nurturing young talent and fostering the growth of football in Ghana.

Appiah's plea comes as Asamoah Gyan, a revered figure in Ghanaian football, announced the forthcoming 2023 edition of his under-16 tournament.

"We must rally behind our brother because his efforts today will shape the future," Appiah stated during an interview with Peace FM.

He further expressed concerns about the continuity of Ghana's football success, highlighting the need for a strong talent nurturing once the current generation of players, such as Dede Ayew and others, retire from the sport.

"So we are very concerned that if Dede Ayew and the others go today, who will represent the country?" he said.

Mr Appiah called for collective energy and support to ensure that Asamoah Gyan's initiative not only succeeds but also serves as an inspiration for other players to follow suit. "I hope that what he has done is not limited to Asamoah Gyan. I'm hoping that other players will take a different approach as well."

He added, "So we will use all of our energy to support our brother Asamoah Gyan, and we will ensure that things change in the future.”

The under-16 tournament, set to take place at the Cape Coast Stadium, is scheduled to commence on June 6, 2023.
