Tamale City FC have made a very big statement in the race to avoid relegation at the end of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

This follows the team's impressive 4-1 thumping of giants Hearts of Oak on Wednesday afternoon.

The two teams faced off at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium today in a Week 28 encounter of the league campaign.

In what was a crucial home match for Tamale City FC, the team had a very good start and took full advantage of the poor display of the Phobians.

After 17 minutes into the first half, star striker Sampson Eduku equalised to put the hosts ahead.

Later in the 36th minute, the prolific forward found the back of the Hearts of Oak net again for his brace while putting his team in control of the match.

Despite the 2-goal lead at halftime, Tamale City did not slow down after recess. The team grabbed a third through an effort from Mohammed Yahaya in the 56th minute.

With the Hearts of Oak players staring in the face of a humiliating defeat, the team tried to turn things around and managed to net a consolation thanks to a strike from Victor Aidoo.

Shortly after that goal, Tamale City killed any hope the Phobians had when Isaac Mensah scored to seal a 4-1 win for the team.

Today’s defeat has pushed Hearts of Oak out of the Top 4 of the Ghana Premier League table with Tamale City moving to 13th on the log.
