Football Transfers Manchester United in talks to secure future of star goalkeeper David De Gea
MAR 29, 2023 LISTEN

Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea is keen on staying at Manchester United, and discussions between the player and the club are ongoing regarding a new contract.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed in a tweet that both parties are optimistic about reaching an agreement, which was also mentioned earlier this month.

De Gea has been a vital player for Manchester United since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011. The 32-year-old has won several individual awards and has been instrumental in the club's success over the years. However, his current contract is set to expire in 2023, and Manchester United is keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

According to Romano, discussions are centered around the salary structure and the length of the contract. Manchester United is keen to retain De Gea's services and are believed to be offering a long-term deal to the goalkeeper.

The Red Devils have already secured the services of Dean Henderson as a backup to De Gea but the club is still keen to keep the Spanish goalkeeper at the club, especially, as Dean Henderson is on a loan spell at Nottingham Forest. De Gea has made over 400 appearances for Manchester United, and his experience and leadership on the pitch are highly valued by the club.

If a deal is reached, it would be a significant boost for Manchester United, as they look to challenge for major honours both domestically and in Europe. The Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League table, and a new contract for De Gea would be a statement of intent from the club.
