Head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton was in attendance at the Baba Yara Stadium on Tuesday to watch the Black Meteors game against Algeria in the 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ibrahim Tanko and his charges hosted the North African side at the Baba Yara Stadium in the return leg of the qualifiers.

Ghana held the Algerians to a 1-1 draw game in the first leg in Annaba with a 1-0 win over Algeria, and they had a high-profile guest in attendance for the match.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored in the 12th minute to end the two-legged tie 2-1 on aggregate as the Black Meteors booked qualification for the tournament that would be hosted in Morocco later this year in June.

However, Chris Hughton, who has promised to build a solid team was at the stadium to watch the game.

The coach, who was appointed as Black Stars coach in February, has been keeping a close eye on Ghana's up-and-coming players, and he was delighted to see them perform at such a high level.

Meanwhile, the 64-year-old has recorded a win and a draw in his first two games played in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers against Angola.

The U-23 AFCON tournament serves as a pathway to the Olympic Games, which is the Black Meteors' ultimate goal as they dream of playing in Paris in 2024.

Black Meteors haven't qualified for the Olympic Games since Athens 2004, where notable players such as Stephen Appiah, Asamoah Gyan, Joseph Paintsil, and John Mensah were involved.
