Ghana coach, Chris Hughton has lauded his players following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers.

The four-time African champions recorded the narrow with Antoine Semenyo's late strike in the 96th minute against the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Stadium.

After the game, the former Brighton manager expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance but said they were not much better than the Angolan.

“African football is not different from football anywhere, if you perform well enough, you have the chance of winning if you score goals in the game you can take the pressure off yourself," the 64-year-old said.

"Probably, our performance was okay I think in the end we deserve it we were better than Angola not so much more but we were better,” the former Premier League manager added.

The Black Stars who are seeking to make their 10th Afcon appearance now sit top of Group E with 7 points after three games.

Ghana will travel to Luanda for the reverse leg in the matchday four games on Monday, March 27.

The game will be played at the Estádio 11 de Novembro with kick-off scheduled at 16:00GMT.

The Black Star are seeking to end the country's 41 years Afcon trophy drought.
