The Guinness National Challenge Cup” race, Ghana's own “Derby” slated for Saturday, January 20, has been postponed due to unforseen circumstances, writes Dan Rana.

According to Mr J.B. Badger, Steward Administrator of the Accra Turf Club, a new date is to be fixed by the Board of Stewards.

He said the race will be run soon, probably linking it with Ghana's Jubilee Celebration.

The programme for the fourth day of the current Christmas and New Year 2006-2007 meeting has therefore been revised.

Second and Third division “A” horses will now feature in the principal race of Saturday's meeting. “The Bamford Handicap” is an eight furlong outing and horses competing include One Love, the latest sensation of the turf, Bare Back and By His Grace.

The revised programme for the fourth day's meeting is as follows:

First Race: “Alexander Handicap” for the Novice Division over a distance of 6 furlongs.

Second Race: “Jolly Stakes”, an eight-furlong outing for fourth division 'C' horses.

Third Race: “Maxwell Purse” Open to Fourth Division 'B' horses over a distance of six furlongs.

Fourth Race: “Bamford Handicap” featuring division and Third Division 'A' horses over a distance of 8 furlongs.

Fifth Race: “Top Hill Stakes”, a six-furlong invitation race for Fourth Division 'A' and Third division 'B' horses.
