Former Premier League manager, Chris Houghton has prayed that Ghanaians will give him the maximum support he needs in order to be successful.

Chris Hughton who could not hide his excitement about his new role as Ghana's head coach pleaded with Ghanaians and the Ghana Football Association to give him the maximum support he needs.

“I will need the support of Ghanaians and the Association to succeed in this task,” he said during a press conference at his unveiling.

Otto Addo, who oversaw the squad from March of last year until their elimination from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar's group stage, was replaced by Hughton in February, this year.

Hughton, who has led teams like Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, as well as Brighton & Hove Albion in the past, is eager to take on the task of managing one of Africa's football giants.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations match against Angola will be Hughton's first task with Ghana. The Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi will host the game. The second leg of the qualifying match will take place in Luanda four days later.

Hughton will try to lead Ghana to victory in the competition using his knowledge and tactical insight.

If qualification is achieved, he would be looking to lead the side to their fifth Africa Cup of Nations championship next year with the strong group of players at his disposal.
